Paint Disposal
Island Junk Solutions provides safe, eco-friendly collection and recycling for your leftover paints and coatings
Clear Out Old Paint Without Harming the Environment
Cans of old paint, varnish, or stain can pile up fast, but they can’t go in the garbage. Island Junk Solutions collects leftover paint products and takes them to approved recycling facilities, where the containers and contents are reused or safely processed and disposed of. Whether you’ve just finished a renovation or found decades-old cans in the garage, we’ll make sure they’re dealt with responsibly.
In BC, the Product Care Recycling program accepts most household paint, including interior and exterior latex, oil-based, and alkyd paints, along with primers, sealers, and undercoats. We handle the transport so you don’t have to sort, load, or wait in line at the depot.
What We Take
We accept:
- Latex and oil-based paints
- Spray paints
- Primers and sealers
- Wood stains and varnishes
- Empty or partially full paint cans (with lids)
- Specialty coatings like masonry sealers (check with us to confirm)
Paint is never dumped or sent to landfill. Usable paint is recycled for new projects, while unusable products are processed to safely neutralize hazards.
Local Disposal Guidelines
In the Capital Regional District (CRD) and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), paint must go to a Product Care Recycling location or an approved transfer station. Whenever possible, containers should be sealed and labelled with the original product name. Mixing different paints together can make them unrecyclable, so it’s best to leave each can as-is.
