Glass Recycling
Island Junk Solutions offers fast, safe pickup and transport for bottles, jars, and other glass containers
Clear Glass Without the Cuts or Hassle
Glass recycling can be tricky — it’s heavy, breakable, and often not accepted in curbside blue bins if it’s mixed with other materials. Island Junk Solutions collects your glass bottles, jars, and other recyclables and delivers them to approved depots where they’re sorted, cleaned, and prepared for reuse.
We handle residential and small commercial glass loads, saving you the trip and ensuring everything is handled in line with Capital Regional District (CRD) and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) recycling requirements.
What We Accept
We pick up and recycle many types of glass, including:
- Glass bottles (clear, green, and brown)
- Glass jars with or without lids
- Unbroken window glass
- Separated food-grade and non-food glass
- Broken glass contained in a sturdy box or bucket
Items like mirrors, ceramics, or lightbulbs are not recycled with glass bottles and jars, but we can handle them separately.
Local Glass Recycling Guidelines
In the CRD, glass containers must be taken to a depot for recycling and kept separate from plastics, metals, and paper. In the RDN, glass is also depot-only, with separate bins for food-grade and non-food glass. Keeping glass clean and free of contaminants increases its chances of being reused.

Glass Removal and Recycling FAQs
Do you take broken glass?
Yes, but it must be contained in a sealed, sturdy box or bucket for safe handling and transport.
Can you collect glass mixed with other recyclables?
Yes, but it will need to be separated at the depot, and sorting fees may apply.
Do you take window or plate glass?
Yes, but it must be unbroken, clean, and approved in advance — disposal of window and plate glass differs from bottle recycling.
What types of glass are accepted for recycling?
Food-grade bottles and jars (clear, green, and brown) are accepted for recycling. We can handle non-food glass, mirrors, ceramics, and lightbulbs, which follow different disposal rules — let us know what you have when you call for a quote.
