Plastic Pickup and Recycling
Island Junk Solutions collects your recyclable plastics and delivers them to the depot
Common Reasons Why Plastics Get Rejected at Depots
Plastic recycling in the Capital Regional District (CRD) and Regional Nanaimo District (RDN) isn’t a one-bin process. Most depots require plastics to be clean, empty, and labelled with a recycling number. Rigid plastics like beverage bottles, detergent jugs, and yogurt tubs are usually accepted, while soft plastics like grocery bags and bread bags must be kept clean, dry, and separate from hard plastics. Some items, such as plastic toys or mixed-material packaging, may not be accepted at all.
Island Junk Solutions makes it easy to recycle your plastics. Our experienced team collects and separates your plastics, then delivers them to the correct CRD or RDN facility. Whether you have a one-time load after a big cleanup or ongoing plastic pickup and recycling needs, we make sure your discarded plastic is properly processed to keep recyclables out of the landfill.

Plastic Recycling FAQs
What plastics can be recycled in the CRD and RDN?
Most numbered household plastics are accepted, along with certain rigid items and, where supported, clean soft plastics. We can confirm acceptance before pickup.
Do you take soft plastics like bags and film?
Yes, and they can be recycled as long as they’re clean and dry.
Can you pick up plastics mixed with other recyclables?
Yes. We can sort mixed loads before drop-off to ensure each item ends up in the correct recycling stream.
Why can’t all plastics be recycled?
Some plastics are contaminated, lack the necessary recycling number, or are made from mixed materials. These are not accepted by depots, and we will dispose of those differently.
