Fast, safe removal and recycling of old spas on Vancouver Island
How to Prepare for Hot Tub Removal
Island Junk Solutions is no stranger to removing hot tubs, and we know there’s more to it than cutting it up and hauling it to the dump. Hot tub units are made from a combination of electrical, plumbing, and heavy materials that require proper disassembly and disposal. Preparing in advance for a hot tub removal makes the process quicker, safer, and better for the environment. Here’s how to help us help you get rid of your old hot tub so you can reclaim your space.
Drain the Hot Tub Correctly
In the Capital Regional District (CRD) and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), draining to the stormwater system is prohibited because chemicals in spa water can harm local creeks and marine life. Instead, drain your hot tub into a household sanitary sewer connection, such as a laundry sink, bathtub, or other indoor drain. Make sure the water is cool before you empty the hot tub.
Clear Access for the Crew
Clear a pathway from the hot tub location to where our truck will park. Remove any patio furniture or planters, and put away rugs and hoses. If the spa is built into a deck or patio, we’ll dismantle structures as needed to remove it safely. Any hard-wired tubs will need to be safely disconnected from the power source before we begin — simply shut off the breaker to the tub and disconnect the wires. Unfortunately, according to WCB regulations, we are unable to disconnect hard-wired tubs.
Recycling and Disposal Options
A hot tub shell may include acrylic, fibreglass, and insulation, while the frame often contains wood and metal. Pumps, heaters, and wiring can be recycled, and materials that can’t be reused are taken to approved CRD or RDN disposal sites.

Yes — according to WCB guidelines, we are unable to disconnect the power to hard-wired hot tubs. Please ensure the power is disconnected before we arrive.

Metal frames, pumps, motors, and wiring are recycled. Shells made of acrylic or fibreglass are taken to approved disposal facilities.

How much does hot tub removal cost?
The price of removal depends on a few factors, including the size of the hot tub and how easy it is to access. We provide free quotes, so you’ll know the price before we start.
